Seriously guys...it was a big fail. Every bit of it. And that is why it has taken me so long to post about it. And I will think about posting the three pics they gave me. But i'm still wondering to myself if they are even pictures of our sweet baby boy...or if she was just lazy and printed them out from the last patient. ha. no joke.
So my appt was scheduled for early in the morning of the 23rd of July. Mike and I arrived early and waited a bit. He gets a bit anxious when we have things to do, so he doesn't like waiting around the house.
So they called me back after about 30 minutes and I brought Mike with me. We get to the doorway of the room and the ultrasound tech tells Mike he needs to wait outside. Um...what? ok, maybe its just patient privacy kind of thing to get me ready, she did say she would come get him when she was ready. So I laid down on the bed and she sat down next to me at her machine and starts the ultrasound...without Mike. She briefly said she just wanted to check a few things and she would let him in to show us.
30 minutes later, and nothing but silence in the room and me watching her head cock every few seconds and push down on my stomach and click click click away on the machine she gets up. I am freaking out something is wrong.
She goes out of the room and comes back with Mike and has him sit on the other side of me. Now read this next part fast because in real life...it probably went faster. The chick finally talks...she points the screen towards us finally so we can see and she says "Here is the head. Here is the spine. Here is what appears to be a penis"...quickly shuts off the monitor and gets up. Mike and I look at each other, and quite honestly, I was just completely shocked at what happened, I couldn't even speak. She told me she got some good pictures of when she was doing the measurements and such before (when I was not allowed to look at the screen) and printed them out. Handed them to me and said I would have the results within the week, but everything looked fine.
That was it.
What really upsets me is the fact that 2 of my other friends had the same scan done at the same hospital (kaiser) and they were able to bring their husbands in and the ultrasound tech took time to show them everything she was looking at and explain everything.
This experience left me really upset. And normally, I would just let it go and tell myself that it was to make sure the baby is growing normally and everything was forming correctly, that if it comes out fine, I shouldn't worry. So after a few days, I finally decided to let it go and I would go pay to have a 3D done at the place I had my gender ultrasound done. Until I got the $700 bill from my insurance for the ultrasound of which Kaiser only covered 400 of it. There is no way I am paying $300 for THAT without having them redo it the way they are supposed to. Free of charge. Am I asking too much? Is this unreasonable? Any one else have a bad experience during pregnancy?
